DR MAYANK BHANDARI - WA SURGERY

I am Dr Mayank Bhandari and I welcome you to WA Surgery. I am a Consultant Hepatobiliary and General Surgeon specialising in laparoscopic (keyhole), hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) and renal transplant surgery. My main interests are in treating disease of the liver, gallbladder, biliary system and pancreas. I also repair hernias and perform all general surgical procedures.

I have trained and worked in top universities and hospitals in India, UK and Australia. After completing graduation in surgery in India, I continued with further training in Surgical Gastroenterology in Mumbai in 2001-2002. I attained fellowship in surgical gastroenterology.

In 2004, I migrated to Adelaide, Australia where I have contributed extensively to the management of liver and pancreatic diseases. To stay at the leading edge of contemporary treatments and develop my own innovative methods, as well as working at top hospitals, I have continuously upgraded my skills. I completed a PhD in pancreatology at Flinders University, Adelaide in 2008. Following this I did my Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. I was then awarded with Paul McMaster Fellowship for advanced training in liver and pancreatic surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (2013-2014).

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham is one of the largest and busiest centres for treating diseases of liver and pancreas in the world. There I was extensively involved in organ transplant and retrieval surgeries. I also gained a lot of experience in managing and treating cancers of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas.

In 2014, I moved back to Australia as a Consultant Surgeon at Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospitals in Perth. I treat gallstone disease and abdominal hernia using modern techniques with an emphasis on rapid access to treatment and recovery. The types of surgery performed include laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), laparoscopic and open hepatobiliary (liver), pancreatic and digestive surgery, and very complex liver, biliary and pancreatic resection.

I contribute to liver and pancreas cancer research by taking part in several ongoing clinical trials. I lead others through publishing research results and educating the next generation of surgeons in my field as an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University’s Medical School.
I operate on public/uninsured patients at Fiona Stanley Hospital and on private/insured patients at SJOG MurdochSJOG SubiacoMount Hospital and Hollywood Private hospital.
